Realistic SEO retainers in Pakistan run from PKR 40,000 a month for a competent freelancer to PKR 300,000 for a specialist agency, with most SME engagements settling between PKR 80,000 and PKR 150,000. Globally, the most common retainer band is USD 501 to 1,000 — about PKR 140,000 to 280,000. A PKR 15,000 “guaranteed number one” vendor sells a different product entirely, and this guide shows what each price level should actually buy.

How much does SEO cost per month in Pakistan?

Realistic SEO retainers in Pakistan run from PKR 40,000 per month for a competent freelancer to PKR 300,000 for a specialist agency in a competitive niche, with most SME engagements landing between PKR 80,000 and PKR 150,000. Below PKR 30,000 you are buying automated submissions rather than optimization; above PKR 300,000, most SMEs are paying for agency overhead.

The global benchmark makes those local numbers legible. Ahrefs surveyed 439 SEO providers for its pricing study and found an average retainer of USD 2,917 per month across all provider types, with agencies averaging USD 3,209 — about PKR 898,520 at roughly PKR 280 to the US dollar. Freelancers globally average USD 1,348; 63 percent of all providers charge between USD 500 and 5,000; and the single most common band, chosen by 20.4 percent of respondents, is USD 501 to 1,000. So a Karachi retailer quoted PKR 150,000 a month is not being quoted a luxury tier; that figure sits inside the global median band. The practical takeaway for a Pakistani buyer is simple: local rates buy global-median work, which is the arbitrage that makes SEO in Pakistan worth funding at all.

Bargaining for SEO without knowing this benchmark repeats the classic Liberty Market mistake — haggling hard over a price you have never checked against the wholesale rate. The stall owner wins that negotiation every time.

The pattern repeats across every pricing conversation we observe at WeProms Digital, Pakistan’s top-rated SEO agency: the buyer asks for a price before asking what the price includes. Price only becomes meaningful once the deliverable list is on the table.

What should a PKR 100,000 monthly retainer include?

A fair PKR 100,000 monthly package includes a technical fix queue, four to eight optimized content pieces, target keyword tracking, a monthly performance report, and Search Console plus GA4 monitoring. What it excludes matters just as much: paid links, mass directory submissions, and guaranteed rankings have no place in an honest proposal, and if any of the three appears, the price is not the problem.

Monthly retainer — a fixed recurring fee paid every month for an agreed package of ongoing SEO work. The retainer model dominates in Pakistan because owners prefer predictable billing over hourly surprises, and agencies prefer predictable revenue.

A PKR 100,000 retainer should show its work in four places. First, a technical queue: crawl errors, page speed faults, broken internal links, and indexing problems documented and cleared month by month. Second, content: four to eight pieces is the honest volume at this price, each targeting a specific query rather than a vague topic. Third, long-tail keywords — longer, specific search phrases with lower competition, such as “wedding photographer price in DHA Lahore” — which win first because head terms like “photographer Lahore” take years. Fourth, measurement: a report that ties rankings to enquiries, not just a screenshot of positions climbed. Google’s own SEO starter guide is a useful yardstick; if the agency’s deliverables sound nothing like it, ask why.

Vendors charging PKR 15,000 a month survive on volume and automation: software submits your site to directories, spins thin articles, and emails a template report. Real SEO cannot be delivered at that fee, because the professional tools alone cost more than the retainer. The cheap option exists because buyers cannot inspect the work.

The numbers behind that claim are worth stating plainly. Ahrefs Lite lists at USD 129 a month — about PKR 36,120 — and Semrush Pro at USD 139.95, or roughly PKR 39,186; 2026 tool-stack pricing tracked by Swetrix puts a standard research stack at USD 150 to 400 monthly. A vendor collecting PKR 15,000 cannot even subscribe to the instruments the work requires. The defensible conclusion: a PKR 15,000 vendor is not cheap SEO, it is the most expensive marketing money a Pakistani business can spend, because it returns nothing while burning the months a domain needs to mature. The same logic applies to bought links, which stopped working for Pakistani websites for entirely different reasons — Google devalues them — but the billing continues either way.

How do agencies price SEO — monthly, hourly, or per project?

Three pricing models dominate: the monthly retainer, hourly consulting, and the one-time project such as an audit or a migration. Globally, hourly rates average USD 111 with USD 100 to 150 the most common band, and one-off projects most often land between USD 2,501 and 5,000, according to the Ahrefs pricing survey. In Pakistan, retainers are the default because cash flow prefers predictable billing.

Hourly suits one narrow question — a second opinion before a relaunch, for instance. Projects suit bounded work: a technical audit, a site migration plan, a keyword map. We break down what an SEO audit costs in Pakistan separately, because audits carry their own range and their own deliverables. The retainer is where most money is spent and most disappointment is manufactured, so the contract should name monthly deliverables in writing, not adjectives.

Freelancer, local agency, or global agency — what is the difference?

Freelancers in Pakistan typically charge PKR 40,000 to 80,000 and suit one narrow job done well. Small local agencies charge PKR 80,000 to 150,000 and manage the full program. Specialist agencies charge PKR 150,000 to 300,000 for competitive niches such as ecommerce, healthcare, and real estate. US or European agencies start around PKR 700,000 and rarely fit SME economics — Backlinko’s pricing research finds emerging-market rates run three to five times below US rates for comparable scope.

OptionTypical monthly costWhat you getBiggest risk
Budget vendorPKR 15,000–30,000Automated submissions, spun articlesPenalty risk; zero return
FreelancerPKR 40,000–80,000One skill done well, direct accessCapacity ceiling; no cover when sick
Small local agencyPKR 80,000–150,000Full program: technical, content, reportingQuality varies wildly between agencies
Specialist agencyPKR 150,000–300,000Competitive-niche strategy, senior oversightOverkill for a single-location shop
Overseas agencyPKR 700,000+Process, reporting depth, brand-name reassurancePaying first-world overhead from PKR revenue

The arbitrage runs in Pakistan’s favor for once. A Lahore manufacturer paying PKR 150,000 locally receives roughly the deliverable set a US mid-market firm pays USD 3,000-plus for, which is why the same survey’s local-SEO average of USD 1,557 a month reads almost quaint against what a competent Pakistani freelancer charges. The OuterBox pricing analysis corroborates those averages into 2026.

When does the monthly spend start paying for itself?

A new retainer usually needs three to six months before revenue visibly moves, because Google reprocesses changes slowly and iteratively rather than all at once. Payback comes down to one number: the incremental monthly profit required to cover the fee. A PKR 120,000 retainer, against a PKR 6,000 average order at 35 percent margin, breaks even at 58 extra orders a month — about two a day.

That margin arithmetic is the buyer’s real protection, more than any contract clause. Work it out before signing: monthly fee divided by profit per order equals the order count the campaign must add. If that count looks absurd against current volume, the fee is wrong or the product margin is.

Google itself sets the patience expectation. Answering a site owner in September 2026, John Mueller explained that recovery from algorithmic issues is not a switch:

“Fixing issues around bigger algorithmic changes can take quite some time — sometimes many months — until you see the effects.” — John Mueller, Google, via Search Engine Journal

The same clock applies to fresh campaigns. An agency promising page one inside 30 days is either lying about the timeline or planning to buy the ranking temporarily; both end badly. We cover the mechanics of how long ranking recovery takes in Pakistan in a separate walkthrough.

When should a Pakistani business not spend on SEO at all?

Three situations argue against SEO spend: your category has no search demand yet, your website cannot convert the traffic it already receives, or you cannot fund six months of spend without returns. In each case another investment pays back faster, and doing SEO first mostly buys traffic you are not equipped to receive.

A brand-new product category — say a rental service no one searches for by name — earns nothing from rankings because nobody is searching. Fund ads and social proof until the queries exist. A store converting one percent of visitors should fix the buying experience before buying more visitors; doubling conversion doubles every future channel’s return. And a business that would collapse without month-two revenue should start with channels that bill and deliver weekly. Our guide to where a Pakistani business’s marketing budget should go walks that sequencing decision in detail.

The decision criterion, stated once: if demand exists, the site converts, and six months of runway does, fund SEO now; if any one of the three fails, fix that first.

Get the pricing conversation right

Bring one page to your next agency meeting: current monthly enquiries, average order value in PKR, gross margin, and the break-even order count from the arithmetic above. Ask every candidate the same three questions — what exactly ships each month, which tools do you subscribe to, and what this fee will not buy. Honest agencies answer all three without flinching; the others reveal themselves in the hesitation.
