TL;DR: The recycled TV commercial running as your YouTube ad in Pakistan collects cheap views and almost no sales. Google’s own guidance says creative quality drives 49% of campaign ROI, and better creative can more than double returns. Fixing the film — Urdu voiceover, brand in the first five seconds — costs a fraction of one month’s wasted spend.
Here is the setup being torn down: a 30-second television commercial, already paid for, uploaded to Google Ads as a YouTube ad without a single change. Clothing brands in Karachi run it. Restaurants in Lahore run it. Ecommerce stores push it through Demand Gen — Google’s campaign type that automatically places one set of ads across YouTube, Discover, and Gmail. YouTube’s advertising reach in Pakistan now stands at 54.3 million people according to DataReportal’s Digital 2026 Pakistan report, which is a larger audience than any single TV channel in the country delivers. Distribution is not the problem. The film is.
Watching YouTube in Pakistan works like watching a PSL match with the remote in your hand: any ad gets about five seconds, and the skip button decides the rest. Television creative assumes a captive audience sitting through the break. YouTube hands every viewer the remote.
What this gets right
Recycling has real advantages, and they explain why the practice spread. Production is already paid for, so the marginal cost of putting a finished film on YouTube is close to zero. A familiar face, a known jingle, a Eid campaign film people have already seen on television builds recall among audiences who encountered the brand before. For pure awareness bursts during wedding season or Eid sales, a recognizable film does a defensible job.
Google has also made distribution genuinely easy. The company states that hundreds of Demand Gen improvements shipped during the second half of 2025 are driving an average 30% increase in conversions or conversion value for advertisers. Upload the assets, set a budget, and Google’s system places them across its inventory. An advertiser in Faisalabad today has access to the same placement machinery a multinational uses.
That convenience is exactly why the recycled ad survives. The platform works. The film does not.
Where this breaks
Skip behavior is the first break. Most recycled cuts show the brand name at second twelve or fifteen of a thirty-second film. The viewer skipped at second five. Google’s July 2026 creative data found that visualizing the brand within the first five seconds is associated with 4% higher conversions on average. That is not a style preference; it is arithmetic about when the audience leaves.
Audio is the second break. Television commercials in Pakistan often carry background music, English voiceovers, or no voice at all. Google’s data shows ads including a human voice average 12% higher conversions — the single largest creative lift the company reported. An Urdu voiceover recorded on a phone beats a polished music bed, because a person speaking is a signal a real business stands behind the ad.
Format is the third break. One horizontal master file cannot fill a vertical YouTube feed slot. Google’s guidance recommends full-bleed, high-resolution photography that blends into the feed, and warns against oversized logos, empty solid areas, and black bars that make an ad look alien to the platform.
Then there are the fake buttons. Many TV end-cards carry a baked-in “Shop Now” graphic. Google explicitly advises removing embedded buttons, arrows, and similar elements that look clickable but are not, because they compete with the real calls to action underneath the ad and confuse the viewer instead of directing them.
The ad gets skipped before the brand appears. The viewer never learns who was selling.

The hidden cost

Research firm Nielsen, cited in Google’s new creative guidance, found that creative accounts for 49% of campaign ROI. Nearly half the return on a YouTube campaign comes from the film itself — more than most bidding or targeting decisions combined. Ekimetrics research, cited in the same guidance, found that improving creative can more than double ROI on YouTube. Most Pakistani advertisers spend their editing hours on targeting settings and none on the film.
Run the PKR math. Global planning ranges put YouTube cost per view (CPV) at roughly PKR 8 to PKR 90 depending on audience and format. A store spending PKR 300,000 a month on YouTube media at PKR 15 per view buys around 20,000 views. If half those viewers skip before the brand appears, the advertiser paid full price for half an impression — roughly PKR 3.6 million a year in attention that never registered who was selling.
Greg Finn, co-founder of digital agency Cypress North, has spent twenty years in paid search and told Search Engine Land that Google’s automation has steadily absorbed the levers advertisers once controlled — keywords, matching, bids. Creative is one of the last things an advertiser still owns outright.
“You’re not doing keywords, you’re doing intent.” — Greg Finn, Cypress North co-founder, on two decades of PPC change
His point cuts both ways. The platform reads intent better than any manual setup did; the advertiser’s remaining edge is the asset the platform cannot generate for itself. Automation places the ad. Only the business can make the ad worth placing.

What Pakistani businesses should do instead
The fix is simple. It does not require a new production budget.
- Cut the TV film into a 6-second bumper ad and a 15-second edit. The full 30 seconds is optional, not the default.
- Record an Urdu human voiceover. Phone-microphone quality is acceptable; the voice matters more than studio polish, and the 12% lift attaches to the voice, not the equipment.
- Show the brand and the offer inside the first five seconds. Logo, product, price — before the viewer’s thumb moves.
- Produce vertical full-bleed stills for feed placements. No black bars, no empty corners, no giant logos.
- Delete every baked-in button from every frame. Let the platform render the real call to action.
- Run two films against each other and judge on conversions, not views. Creative testing is the highest-leverage hour available on this channel.
- Prepare a messaging path. Google is testing ways for viewers to start a chat with a brand directly from a YouTube ad, as Search Engine Land and Social Media Today both reported — and a Pakistani viewer who taps “message” expects to land in WhatsApp, not a web form.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do YouTube ads cost in Pakistan?
There is no fixed minimum published for Pakistan; a practical floor is about US$10 a day, roughly PKR 2,800 at August 2026 rates. Cost per view typically lands between PKR 8 and PKR 90 depending on audience, format, and competition. A serious test needs a few weeks of consistent budget, not a single weekend burst.
Can I make YouTube ads with a phone in Pakistan?
Yes. Google’s own data shows a human voice delivers the largest creative lift at 12% higher conversions, and voice quality is not the variable. A vertical phone video with clear Urdu narration, the brand in the first five seconds, and honest product shots outperforms most recycled TV commercials.
Why do my YouTube ads get views but no sales?
Usually because the viewer skips before the brand or offer appears, or because the ad sends clicks to a slow, cluttered landing page. Check the five-second mark on your film first, then check the page speed on mobile. Views measure attention; sales require the viewer to know who is selling.
How long before YouTube ads show results?
Expect three to six weeks of consistent data before judging a campaign. Google’s system needs conversion history to optimize, and creative tests need enough volume to separate two films. Accounts that change budgets and films every few days never give either process enough signal.
What does WeProms charge to fix a YouTube ad campaign?
We start with a paid media audit that covers creative, tracking, and landing pages, priced according to account size and scope. Every engagement includes a creative test plan and reporting against sales, not views. Contact us for a quote tied to your monthly spend.
