Why Reddit Ads behave differently from Meta and Google
Reddit is a community platform before it is an ad platform. People come to research, argue and recommend, often anonymously, inside thousands of subreddits that function like vertical forums. That changes the rules for advertisers. The same promoted post that performs well on Instagram can get downvoted, hidden or torn apart in the comments on Reddit, because the audience reads ad copy with its guard up.
So Reddit Ads management is less about bidding tricks and more about fitting into communities without setting off alarm bells. We run campaigns that pick the right subreddits, write creative in Reddit’s voice, and back it with tracking that actually counts conversions.
Where Reddit outperforms other ad platforms
Reddit earns its place in a media plan when your buyers are researching inside communities. A SaaS tool for developers, a fintech app, a B2B service for marketers, a gaming peripheral, a cybersecurity product — these have active subreddits where purchase decisions get debated in public. You can put your message in front of people mid-research, at the moment they are comparing options.
It is also cheaper to test than LinkedIn for technical and B2B audiences, and it reaches people who tune out Meta and Google entirely. Reddit CPMs and CPC floors are generally lower, which makes the platform useful for validation — finding the messaging and audiences that work before scaling them on larger platforms. The trade-off is volume: Reddit is narrower, so we use it to reach specific intent, not to blanket a mass market.
Targeting on Reddit: subreddits, interests and keywords

Reddit gives us three main targeting levers, and we usually combine them. Subreddit targeting puts your promoted posts inside specific communities — r/personalfinance, r/SaaS, r/sysadmin — so you reach people who have self-selected into that topic. Interest targeting is broader, grouping users by the categories of subreddits they engage with. Keyword targeting shows ads against specific search terms within Reddit.
The skill is in the selection. Broad interest targeting burns budget fast on subreddits that look relevant but never convert. We map the subreddits where your buyers actually read and post, layer interests and keywords to tighten reach, and build custom audiences from the Reddit Pixel for retargeting and lookalikes. Narrower almost always performs better here than wider.
Creative that survives Reddit’s skepticism
This is where most Reddit campaigns fail. Copy that worked on Meta sounds corporate on Reddit, and Reddit users will tell you so in the comments. We write creative in the platform’s voice — direct, slightly self-aware, no hype, no exclamation marks — and format it as native Promoted Posts, image and video ads, carousels, and Conversation Placement units that sit inside comment threads.
We also produce multiple variants, because Reddit creative fatigue is real and the upvote and downvote signal tells us quickly what is landing. Variants that get downvoted or flagged get retired; variants that earn engagement get scaled. And we manage the comment threads — answering questions, handling objections, and not deleting criticism — because on Reddit the comments are part of the ad.
Tracking: the Reddit Pixel and Conversions API
Reddit tracking has matured, but most accounts we audit are undercounting conversions. The Reddit Pixel fires client-side and is vulnerable to ad blockers and consent rules, so we pair it with the Reddit Conversions API for server-side event forwarding. Getting the two to agree matters: deduplication and Event Match Quality determine how many conversions Reddit attributes and how well its optimisation works.
We install and validate the pixel, configure events for views, leads and purchases, set up deduplication between browser and server, and pipe the data into GA4 and your CRM. That way Reddit conversions sit alongside your Meta and Google data, and you can see what the channel is actually contributing to pipeline instead of guessing from Reddit’s own dashboard.
Bidding, pacing and budget on Reddit
How we helped a Pakistani business achieve measurable results.
Reddit runs an auction with CPC and CPM bidding options and minimum bids that vary by objective and geography. Misreading the auction is a common leak — campaigns stall below the bid floor, or overspend chasing placement they could get cheaper. We set bids against the floor and your target CPA, pace daily budgets so spend does not front-load, and apply frequency caps so the same subreddit does not see your ad until it hates you.
For new accounts we start with a controlled test budget across a handful of subreddit and creative combinations, read the data, then scale what works. Reddit rewards patience in the learning phase and punishes constant edits.
